The political relations between Egypt and Sweden are based on the latter's role in the United Nations (UN) and its bodies e.g., international peacekeeping, and contributing to handling international crises and disputes.

Sweden has attached paramount importance to cooperation between the European Union (EU) and the Mediterranean countries, including Egypt. That was right after it had joined the EU in January in 1995.

In 2009, former Foreign Ministers Ahmed Abul-Gheit and Carl Bildt exchanged visits between both countries to discuss bilateral relations and the situation developments on the international and regional arenas.
