Singapore has always felt grateful to Egypt for that good political gesture. And in return, Cairo was amongst the first 8 foreign capitals, in which was opened a Singaporean Embassy.

For the past forty three years, the political aspect of the bilateral relations between Egypt and Singapore has been the most active. The two countries managed to hold successful coordination in international fora, and their positions coincided on many issues. That was most evident after Egypt helped Singapore to join the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which served as a main source of support to the independence of Singapore then.

It is noteworthy that the visit by the President of the Republic of Singapore to Egypt in 2006 has represented a turning point in the path of bilateral relations. That visit has helped promote significantly the relations between the two countries in a way that corresponded to the various challenges and opportunities that materialized with the new millennium. That visit launched a subsequent series of mutual visits on the ministerial level with the aim of boosting technical cooperation and exchange of expertise in various new fields that would promote development in the two countries. It is worth mentioning that it was during that visit that the Memorandum of Understanding on the conclusion of the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement between the two countries was signed.

As a further proof to the active relations between Egypt and Singapore in the last few years were the successive visits by officials from both countries; namely the parliament speaker, ministers of irrigation, finance, environment, administrative development, trade and industry, telecommunication, international cooperation and the Mufti of Egypt and minister of state for foreign affairs and ministers of foreign affairs, environment and trade and industry, the parliament speaker and the Mufti of Singapore.

In February 2009, the first round of political consultations between the two countries was held, after the conclusion of an agreement to that effect between the two ministries of foreign affairs of the two countries. The consultations were a good opportunity for both sides to discuss bilateral relations and means to enhance them, especially in their economic and investments aspects, as well as to activate bilateral agreements currently in force and exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest.
