Overview
Prime Minister Hisham Qandil on Tuesday October 9, 2012 inaugurated the Euromoney Conference in Cairo, under the slogan: “Restarting Investment, Sharing the Benefits of Growth”.
The conference brought together different stakeholders in the Egyptian economy; decision-makers, entrepreneurs, experts and bankers.
Prime Minister Qandil gave a speech which included a number of facts related to the situation of the Egyptian economy now and in the future; he asserted that no one can talk about the economy without taking into consideration the circumstances that resulted from the 25 January Revolution.
Qandil said Egypt was committed to free market economy and seeks to achieve a 7% rate of growth within the next 5 years
Egypt is intent on increasing the number of tourists to from 12 to 15 million in the coming period, he added.
"We are negotiating with the IMF. Our people are travelling to Tokyo to attend the joint IMF/World Bank meeting this week," Qandil told the conference.
"The IMF is invited to come for official negotiations by the end of this month. We are hoping to reach an agreement by that time," Qandil said.
