Egypt and Serbia

Egyptian-Serbian Relations prospered in the 1950s and 1960s during the era of the Non-Aligned Movement. The disintegration of former Yugoslavia in the nineties together with the wars that broke out in the region had its effect on the level of diplomatic relations to be reduced twice to the level of Chargé d'Affaires.
Yet at the advent of the third millennium the political leaderships in Egypt and Serbia resumed diplomatic relations at Ambassadorial level. Such distinguished relations are reflected in high-level visits between the two countries, most prominent of which is the official visit of the Serbian President in April 2009, the first visit of its kind, followed by heading the Serbian delegation to the NAM Summit, in Sharm El-Sheikh in July 2009. The Serbian President participated in the 11th African Union Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, from June 30th to July 1st, 2008 as well.
